Cruel And Unusual Punishment

Throughout history, man has shown infinite creativity in his ability to inflict pain on his fellow man. Many cruel, and unusual punishments have been thought up by probably some of the most twisted minds of man. For instance, the Brazen Bull. This device was invented by an Athenian man by the name of Perillos, a brass-founder. He introduced it his idea to Phalaris, a tyrant. What he designed was a hollow pure brass bull with a door in the side. They would stick the victim inside and lock the door. Then a fire would be lit beneath it, the brass would then become red hot, roasting the person inside alive. The head was a special design with tubes and horns so that when the victim screamed, to the people on the outside it would sound like the mown of an bull. It was said that when the door was opened the bones of the people burned shown like jewels and were made into bracelets. Perillos, the inventor, was chosen by the tyrant to test the head, to see how it sounded. He crawled in and the door was locked and a fire quickly lit. However, before he died the door was opened and he was taken out. The tyrant then had him thrown off a cliff.
Not all of this torture, and cruelty happened in the dark ages either. Think of Hitler, And World War II, there is some pretty gruesome things that happen in there as well, gas chambers, just starving to death would be horrible. As technology increases, so does the tools of death. Although I think that a machine gun would have been a welcome sight to those who about to be roasted alive in a hallow cow. I would personally rather be shot. I feel pity for those who were blamed for being witches in the dark ages, all that was needed was an accusation and they were burned at the stake. I heard of one story where the Spanish captured a man and they planned on killing him by sticking a stake in the ground. Then they would hold him over it, and shove him down stabbing him right through like a shish kabob. The funny thing was. He fought off all the men and finally ended up shish kabobbing himself on accident. What kind of sick mind would come up with an idea like that. In seventh-grade I remember my teacher telling us in Utah History that when the pioneers came, they would find huge ant hills with beads on them. This was because Indians would be tied to an ant hill and slowly be eaten away by the ants. How gross is that? It is sickening when you think there are people out there that would like to sit and watch someone’s flesh burning and melting off their body, as they burn to death, or watch someone slowly bleed to death, or be eaten alive.
You may be wondering why I wrote on this topic. I am too. We look at the past and see blood, wars, and evil things. We look at the present and see suicides, murdering, war, and sickening things. What I wonder is, what do we see when we look at the future? Wars and rumors of wars, and probably the end of the world.
