Procrastination

Lets admit it, we all do it. First day of the term, "here is your term project, you’ve got two months to get it done." Two months later: "oh, @#%$!!, is that due tomorrow?!?! I haven’t even started! Man do I have some serious homework to do!"- Sound familiar? Procrastination is what we junior high students do best. In fact, we are pros. at it. Although it causes us to work harder than we would have if we wouldn’t have put it off, we still do it. Because hard work often pays off later on, laziness always pays off now. And that’s what we care about. It’s like getting drunk, you go, you drink, have a good time, blah, blah, blah, the next day you’re throwing up. We as human beings are really dumb sometimes. Some of us more than not. And some not so much. The point is, even though it requires a lot more stress, and work, we still procrastinate. Like right now, I’ve procrastinated writing blogs, I am behind on like two or three, and it is going to take me longer than it would have to get the blogs done, had I done them when I was supposed to. I still have some math problems to do, because I put off finishing it, now I will either have to do it later tonight, or get up early tomorrow morning and do it. But although procrastination is bad, it is better to do something late than never. If you put off your term project in science until the day before, you can still get it done, it may not be as good as you would have liked, and you will probably be up all night doing it, but it is better than nothing. It really bugs me when people think that because they waited, it is over and all is lost, and they don’t even try. It’s like the ultimate form of laziness and self pity. They have an F a week before the end of the term, and they don’t even try to do extra credit, or makeup work to pull it up do at least a D-, and they end up taking a make up class when if they would have worked a little harder before, they could have pulled it up. The lazier you are, the more work you will eventually end up doing. We just have trouble looking past where we are at the moment, and realizing what we will have to do later. We see things, or rather, we look at things on the small term scale. We see immediate consequences and rewards. Which leads us to laziness, if we were to look at things on the large scale, we would see that even though we are happy now, we would have to do more work later, and although if we worked now, the fun we get later on, will be more than the half an hour we get now, by not working on something a little each night. It is a simple lesson of life that we have been taught all our lives. But it does us no good, unless we act on it.
